Located northwest of the Axarquía, between the mountains of Tejeda and Almijara. Sedella enjoys an exuberant natural environment, where the streams of Matanzas, Encinar and Granados provide abundant water giving rise to a rich vegetation. Moorish village where the vine was its main crop and still constitutes a prominent element in its landscape and its economy, producing its fields sweet, dry or semi-dry wine that can be purchased in bars or at private homes.

The framework of its streets, the architecture of its whitewashed houses form picturesque corners conferiéndole a unique identity sign to such an extent that it is part of the Mudejar Route. Of its urban set highlights the Church of San Andrés (16th century), offering a beautiful architectural stamp. Next to the church you will find Casa Torreón, the old mansion of the Señor de Sedella, today a private dwelling that conserves a Mudejar style tower. For lovers of nature and hiking, the Sierra de Tejeda has really wonderful places to spend the day. These places are the old road of Arrieros, the Cueva Horeada, the peak of Maroma and the Salto del Caballo.

 

Points of interest


  • Casa Torreón: The Torreón House is the most unique building of the urban core of the town. This is the old house of the mayor of Los Donceles. The house conserves a square tower of Mudejar style, open with geminados arches on Renaissance columns and decorated with esgrafiados of Moorish aesthetics. The interior is covered with tripod armor and triangle braces.
  • Church of San Andrés: The church of San Andrés is located in the highest part of the town. It is worth highlighting its square tower of two bodies with an octagonal roof termination with open arches, built in the sixteenth century. Inside the temple we can see sculptures of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and a custody of the seventeenth century.
  • Public laundry: proof of the local architecture is the public laundry building, located at the entrance of the village.
