In the province of Malaga are several “theme” parks, which are ideal to visit on a rainy day. One of them is the “Mariposario de Benalmádena” or the butterfly park in Benalmádena. Maybe you have noticed a Thai Temple, when you driving from Fuengirola to Malaga and passing Benalmádena. Well this is exactly de location where the butterfly garden is situated.

In this spectacular Thai temple, you can walk amongst more than 1,500 exotic butterflies from around the world, flying freely in a tropical paradise between waterfalls and flowers. As their lifespan is only 2-3 weeks you will be able to find new species each visit. They exhibit more than 150 different species throughout the whole year.There is a special space where they show how the grow and even how they are born. You may not touch them, but they may touch you, so it is possibly they will take a rest on your head or arm. More info also on their website.

 

Be aware that the space has a large humidity level. The environmental conditions in the garden are the same as in their original habitats which means 80% humidity and a temperature between 24-29ºC.The plants you see can de divided into three categories, many of them have been brought directly from their countries of origin (Bali, Costa Rica, Thailand, etc.); 1. Ornamental Plants 2. Flowering plants rich in nectar 3. Host plants.

Photographs are permitted, including the use of a flash. It has access for disabled. They allow the entry of small dogs as long as they are in the arms of their owners. For larger dogs, they have a waiting area.
